Arcata is indeed a special place, but I grew up there and I just can’t see myself living there. My urban needs could never be met, plus its a very myopic place politically. It wants to be a mini socialist enclave and I’m a Randian free-thinker.
I do respect Arcata though, and I can’t think of a better place to have a childhood.

I visited Arcata once a few years ago and fell in love. If I could telecommute, I’d move there post haste. Probably one of the most beautiful places in California that no one (or at least not too many) knows about. Of course I’d have to have a killer job to go along with the killer landscape Arcata offers.
