Me and the wife took a quick trip to Portland last week so I could do a photo shoot for a website project I'm working on—a great little wine and cheese shop called Foster & Dobbs on the Notheast Side. (More on that as it develops.)
Portland is a cool place. It's a bit small for my tastes, but it has a really cool vibe. I was hoping to go to this restaurant called Olea in the Pearl District that had been mentioned in Esquire as one of the top in the country. I've never been one to make reservations, so we just ended up walking over there on a Friday night to try our luck. Sure enough, we got a table with no wait and no attitude (try that in Seattle). Plus, the food was fantastic! Probably the best duck wrapped in bacon with sweet onion foam I have ever had. Turns out the chef is formally of the French Laundry as well. Get ye to Olea if you are in Portland!
We also wandered in to a couple of Thai places for lunch and were quite impressed. Nice and spicy and not too sweet. Great Northern style sausage can be found at a place called E-San Thai.
You can check out some of my Portland photos over on Flickr.
