Survivor: Race War Islands

I caught the latest Survivor tonight which features the “highly controversial” team selection method based on race. There is the Latin team, the African American team, the Asian team, and Whitey. While I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the concept—races are certainly different—it doesn’t seem all that interesting as a social experiment.

I would much rather see something along the lines of the capitalists vs. the socialists. Who would fare better over the course of the game? The group that values the greater good or the group that praises individualism? If they could round up some fiercely independent businesspeople and pit them against some commune-dwelling Marxists I think we could have ourselves a show.

I’m guessing the phrase “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” isn’t going to go over too well at tribal council.

LOL. I like the idea of exploring all sorts of different ways of grouping the contestants, more or less as social experiments to explore which do and which do not seem to have an effect on the game’s progress and outcome. So far, they’ve grouped contestants by age, gender, and now race. I wonder what other possibilities abound…
