Sam Prekop Who's Your New Professor

Sam Prekop

Track: Something

This album came out in 2005 but I just discovered it this last summer. Sam Prekop is definitely one of my new favorites! Lot’s of lush, groovy, pop/jazz goodness with nod to 70’s soul and a bright, plucky guitar. Sam also fronts an equally impressive band called The Sea and The Cake with a similar sound and a slightly wider range. I like both, but in the end, his solo stuff hits the mark for me.

Pretty cool; I kind of wish he didn’t double his vocal track - that seems to be the new ‘indie’ thing to do, (though it’s a pretty old technique). I think you can hide a lot of vocal sins that way, but I’d just as soon hear a single voice. Heck, they can toss in some reverb too if they feel it needs a little extra something.

Hectic and fascinating… Our own racehorse is finally back in training and due to qualify on Thursday, so you know I’ll be posting about it once he’s back on the track. On a different subject, I am so surprised you didn’t comment on my little tangent about Cities of the Red Night - I figured you might be my only reader who has actually read it!

I did read that post about Cities of the Red Night and I have to say, I think you have a better recollection of the underlying themes than I do. My problem was that I was always trying to live Burrough’s life while reading his books—and being 19 didn’t help.

I think my license plate would read: FNORD
