Xmas in Las Vegas: Highly Recommended

We spent the Christmas weekend in Vegas and I have to say it was well worth the effort. This was my very first visit to Sin City and it was a blast. The highlights were the food, the wine, the Cirque, and hanging out with my family. (The $170 I made off a $10 slot machine bet was pretty great too.)
Here’s the rundown: Go see Cirque du Soleil’s Ka. This might be the best live performance I have ever seen. The stagecraft is beyond belief and the acrobatics left me slack-jawed. Totally amazing.
Two great restaurants that I would recommend to anyone: Nobhill and Aureole. The latter features the best wine cellar in Las Vegas which is actually more of a tower. When you order a bottle of wine from the Wine PDA(!) a Wine Angel flies up the wine tower “trapeze style” and retrieves your selection. She brought us a 2003 Eileen Vineyard Cristom Pinot Noir followed by a 1999 Hayne Vineyard Turley Zin. Yum! The night before at Nobhill we had a couple of rare wines to go along with the Cookbook Tasting Menu. If you ever have an opportunity to taste a 2004 Sin Qua Non Pinot Noir, do it. Best wine of the trip! Nobhill’s tasting menu finishes with a Kobe Beef Trio that kicks ass. Plus: Free cookbooks for all!
All in all a great holiday. More pictures here. Cheers!

Cool. See that Ka show if you can. It’s pretty impressive.

Excellent! Glad to hear it was worthwhile. I have also never been, but will likely be going for a bachelor party in July (Soren’s brother Seaton). I think I will go early to play poker and enjoy a nice meal.
