Mark Ryden at the Frye

So I finally made it over to see the Mark Ryden show at the Frye here in Seattle. WOW! I've been casually following Ryden's work for some time now, but seeing it in person for the first time made realize what a truly amazing painter he is. To see his craft up close makes the stuff you see in the pages of Juxtapose seem flat by comparison.

For those who don't know Ryden, he presents a surreal mix of bright furry animals, meats, and bumble bees, mixed in with religious icons, Keane kids, and Abe Lincoln (to name a few). But I'm no art critic, just go see Wondertoonel at the Frye while there's still time. Highly recommended!

One of the Best Shows ive seen at the Frye and in Seattle.

I saw another amazing show there several years ago by an artist named Odd Nerdrum.
